One feature I like about my XS is that the lockscreen torch and camera buttons can only be activated by a firm press, which prevents my torch being accidentally activated. I think you’re right that the medium press is a bit redundant. It can detect pressure so enables light and firm press inputs.ģD Touch is capable of detecting 3 levels of input pressure - light, medium and firm. Force Touch is the technology in Apple Watches and trackpads e.g. Well, you’re right actually, although I’m not sure if you meant it. I think the Lock Screen customization will follow suit eventually (not the watch though, that is something that I think is very useful) and become something you can still do, but not in such an obvious manner. Still there, still just as functional, but somewhat hidden from those who don’t care. I actually emailed the writer and reminded him about hot corners, which is now buried inside the screen saver menu. This has been around for easily 10 years and is so faded that when they added “quick notes” to the last MacOS release (using the lower right corner by default) a very knowledgeable apple writer and reviewer complained that he didn’t want it in the bottom right. The setting that allows you to assign up to 4 quick actions just by jamming your mouse into the corner of the screen. One small example of this that comes to mind is from MacOS: hot corners. If it’s buried in some settings page, the only people who would find it are the people who comment here, and apple might be missing out on something people actually want. This is a brand new feature/idea and the only way to establish whether people find it useful is for it to be so easy your mom could do it (if she wanted to) There are lots of things that are bold and in your face when new, but that fade to the background over time.
